However, Stacey finally made it to Lihue (LIH). Her plane would up being about an hour-and-fifteen-minutes late due to a mechanical issue in PHX. However, US Airways managed to turn what was supposed to be a four hour delay into a much shorter one.
I picked Stacey up from the airport, and it was off to see some sights before I had to work my last shift in a Hawaii - a night shift. I know Stacey had been looking forward to seeing waterfalls in the islands since forever-and-a-half ago, so the first stop was Opekaa falls and the Wailua river valley look out point. After that it was straight to Wailua falls. I was a little dissapointed as when we got the there the falls were lower than when I had first seen it. Then again, there hadn't been a whole lot of rain, and the Wailua can change drastically with rain fall.
After that it was time to go to the grocery store to not only get a few things, but to check out the variety of items proffered therein. One of the most fun things I think a person can do while in Hawaii is just go to the grocery store. Especially if you live in a regular old town and don't hang out with a lot of asian or polynesian peoples. I've seen all kinds of odd stuff, tried even odder stuff, have had interesting conversations about the use of ingredients, etc. The grocery stores have been a source of amusement and education during my stay in the Islands. When I went with Stacey, we found a pretty interesting specimen easily.
We also picked up a bottle of Hana Bay rum and a pineapple (yes, I'm keeping track of these kinds of things and will have statistics at the very end of the trip postings), and headed back home. Stacey was exhausted, suffering from the four hour time difference, and was ready for bed.
That night I had one last transport, and that was it. An easy run, LIH-HNL-LIH, and that was it; no heroics, no patient coding on us, not even a bit of turbulence. It was a great night for flying too; mostly clear allowing the best view of the milky way and the ability to spot LIH all the way from HNL (literally ninety seconds after take off I had it in sight). It was fun working in Hawaii, even if I didn't get that many flights.
A few hours sleep (well, four actually), and it would be time to go do things with Stacey.
